The smart watches helped measure the initial heart rate (HR) of a newborn and is at the core of initiating and evaluating newborn resuscitation.

The problem is that the EKG monitor is very expensive and not available in many delivery rooms.

Therefore, in this study a smart watch was used to detect the heart rate through a transparent plastic bag against heat loss to avoid contact with the fragile skin of a very bluish premature baby,

(24 weeks gestational age, weighing approximately 700 g; Figure 1).

We also used an ECG monitor and pulse oximetry simultaneously.
And within a few seconds, the smartwatch provided the same ECG reading.

So far, we have briefly tested this smart watches method in several infants (with or without congenital bluish heart disease).
